Meet Jason Landon Marcus

Jason Landon Marcus is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated composer, lyricist, and screenwriter. He has written music and lyrics for four original musicals, including The Royal Pyrate (Ars Nova, Almanack Arts, and productions aboard the Waterfront Barge Museum in Red Hook, Brooklyn), The Bacchae (Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies, University of Bristol), Sally May, a Southern reimagining of Oscar Wilde's Salome (reading at Columbia University), and Cyclops: A Rock Opera(Pasadena Playhouse, The Tank). Cyclops: A Rock Opera received a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 2012.

As a composer, Jason has created scores for theater, film, and television, including Casey Thomas Brown's Bareback Acres and Raconteur, a short film by acclaimed fashion designer Christine Alcalay; alongside Brown, he co-wrote the cult favorite "Daddy's Milk" for the critically acclaimed television series American Horror Story. He is currently in pre-production on the feature film Take Us To Your Santa, starring Tiffany Haddish and T. J. Miller.

When not writing for the stage or screen, Jason performs as the frontman and co-founder of MERMAN, an "aquadelic" rock band blending psychedelic rock, mythology, and oceanic folklore. MERMAN performs throughout the Northeast and recently released its debut single, "Splash!"

Jason explores his non-verbal side through painting, creating vibrant and thought-provoking pieces. His ongoing “Yoniverse” series offers geological contemplations of the subconscious emotional realm. Influenced by Enso painting, erosion, color-theory, and feminine mysticism- these paintings are records of ritual practice.
